About Bob Blumenthal

Founder and Tour Operator of Joie de ProvenceSM Tours, LLC

For 25 years I was involved with the global marketing and sales of a product line sold to pharmaceutical manufacturers. This gave me the opportunity to travel extensively in Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia. During that time I logged over 2.5 million miles on flights with just United Airlines and countless more miles on other airlines. Most years I spent about 40% of my time overseas.

As part of my job, I was responsible for organizing distributor meetings and multi-day seminars and workshops.  The hotels I chose had to meet my high standards of providing first-class service and being in strategic locations. This  allowed the attendees to utilize their limited free time to enjoy both the local places of interest and the hotel’s recreational amenities. My goal was to find one-of-a -kind hotels not cookie-cutter types of corporate hotels. Being intensely interested in international cuisines, I worked with the catering executives to plan meals highlighting local dishes and carefully researched and selected restaurants with menus and themes to enhance the meetings. I enjoyed planning special events to enliven the time attendees spent with us. I had a reputation of knowing my territories by their restaurants and was the go-to person within my company for knowing where to eat in cities around the world.

Back home, when our company had visitors from overseas, I enjoyed giving tours of Washington, DC, Baltimore, Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg. My night tour of the Washington DC monuments became legend. I just loved sharing my enthusiasm for touring.

My business travel earned me plenty of frequent travel points, allowing me to take my family on regular international vacations. One of our favorite places to visit was France, especially Provence. We became passionate about Provence. During our many trips, we explored all parts of Provence and found wonderful out-of-the-way places that big bus tours don’t often get to. We’ve scouted out incredible restaurants and wineries, olive oil mills and markets. At some point, I realized what I wanted to do was to share these experiences with others by providing  tours to Provence, as I know Provence.

My experience in organizing trips, giving tours, planning events,  and hosting people allows me to provide you with the finest small group tours to Provence, France.
